Which pram or stroller is right for you?

There is a wide choice of different prams and strollers available. Most of them fit into the following categories:

Prams

These have large wheels that are often inflatable. They can provide a more comfortable ride for your baby than strollers and the wheels often make them easier to move around. They can be heavy and difficult to carry around when collapsed. {amazonWS:itemId=B007FMCEWS,B006X9CQ54,B007FMCEWS,B006X9CQ54;}

Strollers

These are lighter than prams but maybe not be as comfortable. They often leave your baby lower to the ground. Some may not suit newborn babies who need to lie flat. Many strollers don't have a very big basket for shopping or bags. {amazonWS:itemId=B019DRIT4Y,B01BLDAY4Q,B019DRIT4Y,B01BLDAY4Q;}

Double prams and strollers

These are suitable for two children and great if you're having twins or two babies close in age. {amazonWS:itemId=B001CV13RA,B001CV13RA;}

Travel systems

These are prams that have seats which double as car seats so you can move your baby without waking him.{amazonWS:itemId=B01BH2E6MW,B01BH2E6MW;}

How to choose a pram or stroller

These questions may help you work out what you're looking for:

What terrain do you plan to travel? If you plan to stick to shopping centres and mostly flat footpaths and you can find a stroller where your newborn can lie flat this might be all you need. If you are likely to travel over rougher terrain – including going up and down curbs or stairs – you may want to consider something with more support for your baby.

Is adjustable handle height something you might need? If you have a partner who is much taller or shorter than you, or if you are shorter or taller than the average person, check out prams with adjustable height handles.

Do you need a portable bassinet? If you plan to keep your baby in her pram for long periods, you could consider a pram with a bassinette. The bassinette will let your baby lie completely flat while he sleeps comfortably.{amazonWS:itemId=B00MGBYVCE,B01IF4CIL6,B00MGBYVCE,B01IF4CIL6;}

Are you a light traveller, or a ‘take everything but the kitchen sink’ kind of person? If you find it hard to travel light, or you plan to do your grocery shopping on foot, then a pram or stroller with an easily accessible and large storage area could be the one for you. Tip - check access to storage when the pram or stroller is reclined too

Do you use the car regularly? You will need to find a pram or stroller that is easy to collapse and assemble. You will also need a model that is light enough to lift into your car boot – while you juggle everything else – and leaves enough space for your shopping. Some hatchback cars have limited space for a large pram. Tip – when you are choosing a pram try folding and erecting the pram you like and testing to see whether it can be comfortably carried.

Do you use public transport regularly? Some modes of public transport will let you on board with your baby in his pram or stroller. Others require you to fold up the pram or stroller and stow it on board. This can be tricky as you will need to carry your baby and the pram or stroller, as well as anything else you need to juggle. For this reason, if you plan to use public transport frequently, you may prefer a narrow (less than 75cm), lightweight stroller that can be folded easily, ideally with one hand.

Is it important for you to make eye contact with your baby while wheeling her around? If so, look for a pram with seats that face you or prams that offer reversible handles or seat directions.

Do you plan to exercise while using your pram? If you want to jog with your baby, look into three-wheeled prams or joggers. Bike prams are available for those who love to cycle. These can be configured as a bike with a pram at the front, or a conventional pram.
